Tragedy Does Not Write the Final Chapter
When Dickson County Sheriff’s Deputy Richard “Keith” Bellar was killed in the line of duty in 2011, his wife, Brandi, and their young family were left to face a future they never expected.
Keith’s service and sacrifice have not been forgotten. The State of Tennessee later designated a portion of State Route 235 in Dickson County as the F.T.O. Richard Keith Bellar Memorial Highway, ensuring his name and service continue to be remembered by the community he served.
But Keith’s legacy also lives on through his family—and through Brandi’s remarkable journey forward.
Children of Fallen Heroes had the privilege of bringing Brandi and her children to Paraclete XP, where they experienced indoor skydiving together.
For us, that day was about more than flying.
It was about creating a moment where a surviving family could laugh, experience something extraordinary together, and continue moving forward.
And Brandi did exactly that.
Through the years, we watched Brandi’s resilience, determination, and commitment to building a future for herself and her family. She continued her education, pursued a career in law, and ultimately passed the North Carolina Bar Exam.
That is what makes us so proud.
Brandi’s story reminds us why Children of Fallen Heroes exists.
Our responsibility to surviving families doesn’t end after the funeral, an anniversary, or a single experience.
We stay beside them.
We first knew Brandi as the surviving spouse of a fallen deputy. Today, we know her as a mother, a survivor, and an example of extraordinary resilience.
Her journey represents something we want every surviving spouse, every child, and especially every young woman who comes through Children of Fallen Heroes to understand:
There are still possibilities ahead.
Loss does not mean the end of a dream.
Education can open new doors. Determination can create a new path. And even after unimaginable loss, the future can still hold purpose, achievement, and extraordinary possibilities.
And their story will continue at America’s Campus for the Next Generation.
Children of Fallen Heroes will dedicate a trail in honor of Deputy Richard “Keith” Bellar—inspired not only by his service and sacrifice, but by the strength and spirit of the family who carried his legacy forward.
Tragedy became part of their story.
It did not get to write the final chapter.
