Hurricane Helene Relief and CFH Child Displacement Center Proposal

Correction Notice:

We’d like to take a moment to clarify an important detail from our recent email newsletter. Tryon International Equestrian Center is a valued partner of Children of Fallen Heroes. However, the Child Displacement Center is being built on the 82 acres in Moore County, minutes from Pinehurst and Fort Liberty, NC, acquired by Children of Fallen Heroes, not at the Tryon International Equestrian Center.

Additionally, we apologize for the incorrect spelling of Bobby "Spyder" Wren in our previous communications—it should have been spelled Bobby "Spider" Wrenn.

We’ve been working tirelessly to ensure the success of these projects, and we deeply apologize for the confusion caused by these errors. We’ll do our best to avoid mistakes like this in the future. Thank you for your continued understanding and support—it means the world to us.

Hurricane Helene has brought devastating flooding and damage to Asheville and the North Western NC surrounding areas, where Children of Fallen Heroes (CFH) first started near Tryon and Lake Lure. With our extensive experience from past disasters like Hurricane Mathew 2016, Florence (2020), we are ready to respond and provide support to those affected.

We’ve mobilized trusted teams to deliver essential aid and supplies. The most urgent items needed include:

Urgent Supplies Needed:

  • Aviation Fuel (Top Priority)

  • Water

  • Hand Sanitizers, Baby Wipes, Diapers, Formula

  • Pet Food (for Dogs, Cats, and Horses)

  • Tarps and Ropes

  • Winter Rated Sleeping Bags (temps at night have already dropped in the 60's)

  • Winter Rated Tents

  • Hygiene Products: Toothbrushes, Toothpaste, Deodorant, Shampoo, Feminine Hygiene Supplies

Important Notes:

  • Clothing donations are not needed at this time. Diapers and hygiene products are in high demand and run out quickly.

  • Be cautious of potential scams. Only donate through verified and trusted sources to ensure your contributions directly support those in need.

As we respond to the immediate needs of the community, we are also preparing for the long-term care and recovery of displaced children. CFH is planning the development of a Child Displacement Center on our 82 acre property Morrison Bridge Road in Moore County. This center will provide a safe, supportive environment for children affected by Hurricane Helene, with temporary housing, therapeutic programs, and educational support.

CFH Child Displacement Center Plans in partnership with Legacy Construction for Moore County Proposal.

  • 50 Tiny A Frame Shelters: These homes will provide safe, comfortable accommodation for children and their guardians. Each home will be equipped with climate control and essential living necessities.

  • 10,000-Square-Foot Main Building: This facility will store supplies, offer a communal dining space, and provide areas for indoor activities such as STEM+arts programs and winter recreational activities.

  • Horse Rescue and Equestrian Therapy Program: A unique therapeutic program that will allow children to care for and interact with rescued horses, providing emotional healing for both the children and the animals.

Adam Plummer Legacy Transitional Hub

Additionally, we are planning to establish a Transitional Hub on a 40-acre property on Hopewell Rd, Ellenboro, NC. This hub will serve as a transition point to the main CFH property, featuring:

  • A 1,500-Square-Foot Building for short-term stays.

  • 5 A-Frame Shelters for transitional housing, offering essential support for displaced children and guardians.

  • Horse Placement for 20 horses. (no stallions)

We stand by our first responders and their families, especially those who have lost their lives while serving during this disaster. Their sacrifice and commitment drive our mission to support the community during this challenging time.

For more information on Hurricane Helene and official updates, please visit the North Carolina Department of Public Safety (NC DPS) website. This page will also serve as a resource for residents and visitors affected by the storm. Updates will be posted regularly.

We are committed to delivering immediate aid while creating long-term solutions for the children and families affected by this disaster. Together, we can help them rebuild and recover.

Humbly and Respectfully,

Ken Wasley, President & Founder
